Ultra- HDTV With Ultra-Cool Remote
The Samsung 9000 is an ultra-thin, LCD HDTV that supports 3-D using active shutter glasses. It also has a full color touchscreen remote.

Picture is shot after 18 months. The left edge, 3 inches or so, is brighter than the rest of the screen. (The portion that is greyed out for non HD picture.) Burn-in? Figured TVs were good for 10 years, not 18 months. Bye-bye Toshiba.

I purchased this TV in May and within a month it started having thin vertical lines when first turned on. Over time the number of lines has increased. The TV was picked up by an authorized service center and a new panel was ordered. After a couple of weeks of waiting on the part, I was informed that the panel is on back order and would not be available before the end of December. I called Toshiba Customer Service and asked that they authorize the service center to return the TV to me so that I would have something to watch until the part was shipped; Toshiba refused.
Seems to me if a manufacturer doesn’t bother to stock repair parts for TVs still under warranty, they should at least be willing to pay the cost of having the TV returned to the customer until the part is available. My advice to potential Toshiba customers is to have a backup device in case you ever need service since you may be waiting months to get your TV back. Or you could be smarter than me and buy a different brand.

Im another buyer where size was the main factor in its purchase. I have an heirloom quality TV armoire that is simply NOT going anywhere so I wanted to fit the biggest screen possible into it. With the thin frame, I put this TV in place of a 37. I’ve experienced no problems with it (knock on wood) and I bought it in November of 2007 with an extended warranty from Circuit City. I also think it is simply elegant and really beats the silver one I had before. Picture quality is superior to me imo. Critics seem to be overcritical. The greens and blues are distinct enough for me.

Bought this at Circut City last year and the color gun went out on it today. TV’s used to last years and years. Now you’re lucky to get a few years. Had a Mitsubishi 60 inch for 7 years and the color went, can’t get parts. Had a Sony that lasted about 8 years and power supply went out - cost more than the TV was worth to fix it.

The main reason for this purchase was it’s size advantage over a 37 in Toshiba. Salesmen felt this set produced a better picture over the other Toshiba sets. I have been told that it is made by another company, not Toshiba. This set performs well but I do not have another LCD set to compare. I do have a Pioneer Plasma 50 in. that I like much better. If choosing between LCD and Plasma I would go with the Plasma. It is true the LCD is brighter and no glare but when I want to view TV, I find the color, depth and over all experience superior with the Plasma. Do not get me wrong, the Toshiba gives a beautiful picture and perfect out of box trouble free performance.

Hi, so you might be thinking that this is the ultimate technology right now and that you’re going to get absolutely the best HDTV experience there is on the market (because LED technology in the latest and greatest newcomer to the market right?) But if you want an honest appraisal in layman’s terms, then although I can say that this isn’t a bad TV, neither is it a super major leap forward in picture quality either. Sure the black looks black (perhaps on a par with a decent plasma type) and the higher frequency maybe cuts down on the fast movement blur compared with a lower refresh rate LCD, but I see this as more of a small step towards convergence between plasma and LCD in terms of picture contrast combined with a lightweight package, than any revolution in TV technology. For sure it’s thin compared with other STD offerings, and if gaining an extra inch or so in your room width is so important to you then this might just be the TV for you. If on the other hand you are hoping for a major technological leap forward in viewing pleasure then I think this is more in the mind than in the flesh so to speak. Let’s face it, the technology offerings today are realistically more a choice between design of the packaging and aesthetics of the unit more than any startling difference in performance, and until the consumer electronic brands develop technologies that defy reality in our minds eye, then from 8ft away the differences between the mid to best offerings on the market today are minor to say the least. Am I happy with this purchase? Yes, but to be truthful, Is it much better than a TV that costs $1000-2000 less then I would say not really. Now when holographic 3 dimensional TV comes onto the market I might have a different view, but until then, it’s a TV after all, with all the same drivel of programming that was there way before the cathode ray technology became a thing to ridicule. Bottom line, if you would like to pay extra for a TV that will hug your wall and save an inch or two then go for it, otherwise you will probably be just as happy with a decent offering of LCD or plasma technology, and save the extra money to invest in some compact fluorescent lamps to light your house (compared with regular incandescent light bulbs) that would save a lot more energy than the savings you will gain from firing up this TV a few hours per day compared with LCD or plasma. Bottom line, it’s all good, but not that good, and you will still see some pixelation that you probably hate but will try to ignore…

I was able to view this TV this afternoon and I got to tell you; Wait! Don’t buy this TV until you have viewed it in a darkroom. It doesn’t have to be totally dark, but dark none the less.
Make sure you look to the corners of the TV set. There you will notice light pumping whether it is a dark or light picture it is always present.
I am truly surprised that this is the same company that produced the LN55A950 would sacrifice picture quality for a super thin format.
A salesman came over and started the sales pitch with a $500 price drop. I pointed to the over driving of the LEDs and he said that it was a good catch but it was just that TV and he had one hanging up in the showroom and to look at that one for review.
Well the saleman and I did and there it was; Each of the four corners light pumping with each changing scene on the display model as well. I told the salesmans if I were to get home and find my model doing that it would be coming back.
You might get this TV and love it, but check it first in the showroom I wouldn’t spend over $3000 for a TV that performs like this not matter how thin and I can’t imagine anyone else would either.
Update: Just to clarify the edge lit technology is not as much in question as to how well it was implemented. The corners appear to suffer from an over driving of the LED and in the process it is causing a bleed over in the form of a bright circular pattern that radiates outward to the center of the TV screen from all four corners.

Picture quality 9 of 10, pretty cool actually. Yes, there is some color variation in corners of screen (light pumping) minor, u really have to look for it. Samsung 950A is a little better IMHO. But is old tech compared to networking opts on 8000. Wait for 950B, later this summer. If u can.
Haven’t had to make any tweaks to picture, apart from temporary changes depending on signal source.
Take care if hanging on wall; Tv is slim & fragile. make sure top 2 bolts are carrying most of the wieght, or you will buckle internal TV support frame.
All-in all, a very fine Tv that should remain techno enough for years to come.

I purchased the 55 in LED from 6ave electronics and when I received it the large remote did not work. I called 6ave, they told me to go through Samsung since it was new and under warranty. I called Samsung and the CS Rep tried to charge me for a remote! I explained it was a new TV, and she said OK they could send a remote it would be about 5 business days. After 5 days, no remote so I called Samsung back to get the status. Well, guess what, no order for a remote was ever put in the system but the fact I called about a broken remote was in the system. They said they would create a new order and it would take about 7-14 days from now to get the remote. I asked them to send it express mail, since the TV can’t be fully utilized without the large remote and I have already had the TV well over 2 weeks and it is almost useless without the remote. They refused to send it xpress mail, they all gave the same scripted phrase: “it is Samsung policy to send it UPS ground” I asked them, it is also Samsung policy to send defective remotes and not put in a replacement order? This is not standard procedure, Samsung sold me a defective product then failed to send a replacement. They acknowledge their mistake but do nothing to rectify it. I also purchased the additional 4 year warranty, I can not even imagine the horror I will have to go through if anything happens with the TV.
I spoke to at least 5 people in customer service, including the “ECR” department. The ECR department is supposedly for situations that have “escalated”. They were not only no help but outright RUDE!! I asked to speak to the ECR supervisor and she would not even get on the phone with me. The ECR Customer service rep would not even give me the Supervisors name, they will call me back they said. Needless to say, I am not holding my breath for the call. If you like being ignored and treated rudely then by all means get a Samsung. If not, look somewhere else….

I have used this product for more than six months. I has an excellent picture. I have not noticed any pixellation. It is on 10-12 hours a day. The only video it sees is from my DirecTV HD box via HDML. I am fully pleased with my purchase.

Hello to all,
First of all I’d like to tell everyone I enjoyed the Toshiba 46rf350u very much. It fit perfectly in my custom cabinets…this was one of the big factors in buying this model. Unfortunately I had some pink lines appear on each end of the tv, 7 months after my purchase. Customer Service was very helpful and sent a service tech. out but could not fix the issue and took the tv to the shop. It could not be repaired and Toshiba offered a exchange or my money back. I decided to get my money back because this was the only tv that would fit the cabinet. Overall a good experience with CS.

I bought it in May 2008 and waited until Dec 2008 to give a review. After 6 months of usage, I am fairly satisfied with its performance. There is nothing fancy in terms of feature. I am actually glad Toshiba get rid of the picture-in-picture. Let’s face it, how often do you watch two TV shows at the same time. The nicest thing about this TV is its slim size. In terms of picture quality, it is as good as you can get from any HDTV. I hooked it up with AT&T U-Verse to watch football games in 1080i HD. A reminder, currently all US HDTV signals are 1080i. 1080p is the future, but we have to wait. Honestly, I can’t tell if there is any difference between this TV and other brands. Toshiba’s replacement for this model 46RF350U, which is 60Hz, is almost the same TV but with 120Hz. Unless you watch Blue Ray DVD exclusively, 60Hz is enough for 2 more years.

I purchased this set 14 months ago for a bit less than $2,000. The panel went bad a few weeks ago. Repair costs would have been in excess of $2,500. The best I could get from Toshiba was “We are sorry” (even though they wasted 30 minutes of my time spitting it out). It was tough to “write off” but I did so. They obviously do not need my business; I surely do not need any more of their products. Moral…..buyer beware.

We were very pleased with this television until a couple of months ago, when it began having vertical lines across the left, and then right, sides of the screens. I sent Toshiba an e-mail about it in March, when the TV was about 2.5 months out of warranty. We tried some troubleshooting and when that didn’t help, they said to take it to get an estimate. The technician said the entire LCD screen had gone bad and would need to be replaced, at a cost of $3,078! (I paid $1983 for it.)
Toshiba told me to send them a letter requesting assistance. A few days later they told me, sorry, it’s out of warranty, and they wouldn’t do anything about it. I explained that since the ENTIRE LCD SCREEN had gone bad after just 14 months, it was clearly defective. And it’s not like I was having to pay a couple of hundred dollars for a part - the entire TV was scrap. Nothing I said would change their mind.
I understand that it’s out of warranty. What I don’t understand is them acknowledging that there was something wrong with the LCD screen, that it should have lasted MUCH longer, etc., but not being willing to stand behind their products, do the right thing, and at least provide a partial refund or SOMETHING.
That was my third Toshiba television purchase, but it will be my last. They have lost a customer for life, and I hope if you’re reading this, you will pay attention to this - they WILL NOT stand behind their products and do the right thing.

This TV has been a great addition to our famlies entertainment center. I have waited for a while to purchase my first plasma/ flat screen tv and it was worth the wait. the picture is clear, clean and crisp, as well as the many different functions and plug in ports. I am looking forward to many years of great tv viewing.
