I purchased the LT47P789 a couple days ago. I upgraded from the VP322- 32″ plasma.
I thought the plasma had a good HD picture until I put them side by side. There really is a big difference in richness and quality between the 2 pictures. The plasma seems to have a dull film over the picture with colors not as true or vivid including blacks. There is also a difference in detail such as face imperfections that are clearly picked up on the 1080 versus the 720 plasma.
For comparison I used a Gefen tv splitter 1:4 that takes the HDMI cable from my Dish Network receiver and splits it to 4-HDMI displays. The Gefen splitters are a little pricey but they also split the audio correctly including lip sync pass through.
2 x 10 watt Speakers provide decent sound and are not tinny like on the plasma. A would recommend a surround sound system for true theater feel however.
I see little to no motion blur while watching sports in HD. Its comparable with the plasma. The tv also has the ipod docking station that I have yet to try.
The cons I see with the LT47P789 is it does a poor job with SD 480i signals. The plasma also did a poor job. The 480p progressive scan dvd player looks very good however.
Hopefully we will have all HD channels in the near future.
Just a note the factory settings were actually not that good for my taste when I got the tv.
After doing some adjusting I ended up with: video status-dynamic, tint-45, color-68, picture-54, bright- 52, detail-25, back light-100, color temp-cool.

This is my first HDTV. It is perfect for my bedroom. Great picture and sound. I love the Ipod feature. I rate it a 10 must have. No complaints.

This LCD is fabulous…once I adjusted the color slightly and figured out how to work the remote for favorite channels it was awesome. The picture is extremely clear, the sound is amazing, and it looks so much cooler than the square-edged LCD’s that everyone else carries. JVC truely is the leader once again…first the AUDIO, now in VIDEO. BUY one, you’ll love it.Never tried the Ipod dock since I don’t own one. jamiesjeep

Prior to this purchase, for 2 years I was shopping independently for a 32″ LCD TV and for a small, but quality stereo for my iPod. Both of these items were for my living room. It never occurred to me that there would be a TV with an iPod dock. When I spotted this TV in a store, I thought it was a brilliant idea. While I couldn’t find any reviews of this TV, I was confident with the JVC brand. My instincts were correct.
The picture quality is terrific as is the sound quality. When using my iPod, I really like that I can view the title and artist on the TV screen. I saved $200 by purchasing from Amazon… plus the savings of no longer needing to purchase a stereo. The hardest part of setting up the TV was removing the heavy old TV that this one is replacing. I’ve only had the TV for a month so there are more features for me to discover. I’d buy the same product again.

I needed a TV for my basement, and when I saw this one on sale at Sears–complete with iPod dock–I was sold. This is the first TV of its kind that I’ve seen, and I was thrilled to find that my 30GB iPod could be docked and charged while I viewed movies directly from it. This TV has great audio and video quality….you won’t be disappointed! However…I discovered soon after Christmas the reason for the price cut. The TV remote CANNOT completely control the iPod Touch. Although you can certainly play music and video from the Touch through the TV, the nature of the touch will not allow you to control the functions using the TV remote control. Again…those Apple folks are a step ahead of all of the supporting technology. In any event, this TV is still a GREAT value!

I tried a top of the line 50″ Panasonic plasma out for almost a month, and it just didn’t resonate with me. Not sure what it was exactly, but it just didn’t make me say “wow” when I watched it. For a person that was upgrading from a non-progressive CRT TV, that is unacceptable.
So, I did even more research, and came upon the 47″ JVC. it was priced well, and it had the specs I wanted. I returned the plasma, hooked up my ps3, and my jaw dropped open.
I’m a firm believer in LCD now. I have seen absolutely no issues with LCD that I have read about. Not a single blur, absolutely no banding, lag time, or subpar performance. The picture is bright, super crisp, and just amazingly real.
to tell you the truth, the picture is so amazing, that I often don’t pay enough attention to what I am watching because I get so taken up by how amazing everything looks. I suppose that will wear off though.
It should be noted that while the picture quality is amazing, a few things do bother me. They weren’t important enough to bring it down a star, but worth mentioning anyway.
-I found the tv somewhat slow ot respond to the remote. Everything feels labored in the menus, and many other actions don’t happen immediately, but after a short delay.
-switching through inputs and analog channels is equally slow. It takes a while to go anywhere, and it can be frustrating.
-The menus are archaic looking and clumsy to navigate. I can’t understand why the menus on a 1080P television look like they came out of an Atari video game.
These issues take a very distant back seat to the importance of picture quality, so they didn’t warrant a lowered rating in my opinion. I have never looked back since buying this, and I’m thrilled with my new TV.

The transaction was everything it was suppose to be. I bought via Amazon to protect myself against any funny business with the supplier, which there was none, but had there been I was covered even for shipping.
The JVC 47 inch LCD TV really is nice. The only negative is there is no picture on picture which we had before, but only used once in awhile.
We get our signal via an indoor antenna, no cable/sat. With the HD TV we get great picture (yes they would be better with cable/sat, but 30-40 bucks a month to watch even more tv is not for us.
So far nothing to complain about, great color and lots of options.

picture quality and sound system. The colors are really sharp and picture is very clear.

This is One of the best LCD tv’s you can buy period.
Nice professional sleek black styling, excellent picture quality, Has all features you would want out of a LCD tv. HD content is awesome, SD content is better than most other TV’s i demoed or brought home.
Has tuners built in (I have analog COX cable and dont use the cable box yet) picks up channels via antenna too.
Hooked to PC (nvidia 6800 XT 256 mb) 1920 x 1080 (1:1) mapping, did not have to do any settings (all auto). No Overscanning issues. Used DVI to HDMI cable.
Remote is universal and feels industrial quality.
If you are deciding between JVC/Sony/Samsung/Sharp/Panasonic I found this was the way to go.
Also if you dont have Home theater receiver, the included speakers produce excellent sound. If you do have one, this would output Optical sound for you receiver.
No Issue what so ever. Make sure you sit atleast 12-15 ft away from the TV, for perfect viewing. This TV upconverts all signals to 1080p.
The stand that comes with it is tilt and swivel.(havent tried yet)
Now I need 1080P content, which as you all know is difficult to find.

I got this TV primarily because of the built in iPod dock and the good price. So far, I’m very impressed.
Picture - After hooking it up to my cable box with an HDMI cable and adjusting some of the settings, the picture is even better than I expected, even on non HD broadcasts. Blacks are black, and no blur from fast motion. The screen does a great job of reducing glare and reflections.
Sound - The sound is adequate. Has 2 speakers with an option for simulated surround sound. The sound is weak compared to a home entertainment system, but about average for a TV. There are several sound settings and can be customized.
Remote - The remote works good and is laid out pretty well. I mostly only use it to to play the ipod, since normally use the remote from the cable company.
iPod Dock - JVC is currently the only TV manufacturer that offers a built in iPod dock. The dock flips down from the front of the TV just below the screen, and gives you the ability to play music or videos from most iPod’s through the TV. There is a very limited menu on the TV screen for control of the iPod. For most iPod models the TV screen menu only allows you to: Play music (alphabetically); Shuffle play music; or Play videos. You can also skip forward or back to the next song or video using the remote. More control of the iPod can be done using the TV remote to operate the menus on the iPod itself, or you can manually manipulate the menu on the ipod unit. It would be nice if the full ipod screen appeared on the TV, but it doesn’t. Videos from the iPod are not very high quality, so are best viewed in a small screen mode.
Overall - Seems to be a well made TV with a lot of features. I’m very pleased.

I’ve had this set for about a month now and have nothing but high praise for the functionality and appearance of it. The universal remote has easy to use buttons to access whatever input you desire, the set has a beautiful picture with true colors and a crisp display, and I love the sound quality. The set itself is very attractive and extremely easy to set up and use. That being said, the main reason I purchased this set was because I was never satisfied with the blurring associated with sets that have the 8ms response time. This set has a 5ms response time, and that 3ms difference seems to have made all the difference in the world. Great tv at a great price and on time, quality delivery. Super Bowl looked great!

JVC makes GREAT products, plain and simple. We purchased our JVC 42 LCD HDTV about 2 weeks ago and for some odd reason, and I don’t know why I hadn’t read about this before and why it came as a surprise to me, but when you watch regular television on an HDTV monitor, the picture quality comes out less than perfect…in fact it comes out dang-near blurry. The so-called technology that makes regular TV *look* almost HDTV quality…? Now THAT is a joke.
If you buy this TV to view Blu Ray and/or HD DVD’s or HD quality programming, you will be THRILLED I assure you. The quality is absolutely wonderful and I find it hard to believe picture quality better than this is commercially available (at least as I write this…) but again, if you plan to watch regular television and/or DVD’s/Video’s that are NOT High Def quality, BE PREPARED to be a little disappointed (if not a LOT).
Keep that in mind before you buy and you won’t be surprised like I was. Hope my review helps.

Like many buyers of this television, I did a lot of research before purchasing it. My main concern was motion blur (a documented problem associated with LCD televisions, especially the early generation LCD), I’m not certain if the latest LCD sets are plagued with this problem. Research suggested manufacturers use different methods to eliminate blur–some good, some bad. JVC’s all-in-one processor states that it refreshes the picture 320 times/ sec. The first program I watch on this TV was a HD hockey game, especially the puck (not many object move faster across the screen). I noted no burring of the hockey puck. I brought this TV Christmas of 2007 for $1095.00 from buydig.com, with no tax and free shipping. I recommend this TV to anyone looking for brilliant colors, excellent contrast, top notch convergence ( misaligned convergence causes red, green, blue or combinations of all three to be out of place, and halos or ghosting around image outlines), excellent stairstep linearity or grayscale (ability of a TV to produces black through gray to white–normally the better a TV produces a B/W picture, the better the color image will be), and decent sound. My only complaint is the layout of some of the remote’s buttons. I cannot count the times that I pressed the outer menu buttons while accessing the down/ back/ forward arrow buttons in the simi-circle on the remote–big thumbs I guess!!
